The most significant insight is only as good as your ability to communicate it to others. Join Zipfian Academy co-founder Jonathan Dinu for this 4 part workshop series on introductory data science topics.

Tickets available on Eventbrite.

Anyone who has looked to create an interactive visualization has heard of D3.js and you can see it used everywhere. From NYTimes political maps to in-browser business dashboards, D3.js has become the lingua franca that powers data driven graphics on the web.

See what all the buzz is about by building your very own interactive visualization and understand what a treat D3 is to use. Gone are the days of cumbersome static charts. D3 has allowed data scientists and journalists to unlock the story hidden in an otherwise incomprehensible data set. Not only has D3 become a powerful tool, but it has also grown a thriving community of developers and artists.

For this 2 hour hands-on workshop, we will use SF Open Data to build an interactive visualization. By exploring the design principles behind the NYTimes graphics, using open source technologies, and refining your communication skills, participants in the course will learn to tell their own stories with data.

In this workshop you will:

• Get hands-on experience with D3 by building an interactive visualization

• Understand the basic principles behind effectively visualizing information

• Learn the best practices of D3 and how to write maintainable code

• Learn how to leverage higher level libraries built with D3 (Vega, Rickshaw, dc.js)

• Meet other aspiring data artists and learn how to participate in the growing community.

With the ever increasing amount of data produced, rich experiences are possible that before were only the realm of science fiction.
