Black Swan has been shortlisted for a Data IQ Talent Award and named Britain’s fastest start up by The Sunday Times ranked #1 in their inaugural ‘Start Up Track 15’. Launched in 2011, they work with some of the world’s leading consumer-focused brands including Vodafone, Pepsico, Disney, Panasonic, Tesco, and GSK and employ 200 people worldwide across offices in UK, Hungary, USA, Canada, Singapore and South Africa.

Datascience is at the core of what they do, transforming the way brands create value from data, finding insights and solutions that create an advantage for their business.

They analyse consumer behaviour using public and private data, then build cutting edge technology based on predictive models to create better outcomes - a process they call “Applied Prediction”.

Dick Fear is their Director of Datascience and Markus Frise is their Head of Datascience. For his thesis, Dick wrote a Monte Carlo simulation of relationship evolution within a social network and extensively analysed the resulting behaviour using the Networkx Python package.

Dick and Markus will tell us how Applied Prediction works, how Datascience can be the secret sauce for Brands and what makes the company one of the fastest growing in Datascience.
